Every Shot on Target From the Euro Knockout Stage

The Son

Hi everyone!

Welcome to the eighth issue of the Viz of the Week newsletter, where I'll be featuring a new visual each week and sharing the code behind it.

I want to give a big welcome to the 25 new subscribers that joined this week. 🤍

In today's visual, we'll be looking at the shots on target in each match of the Women's Euro 2022 knockout rounds.

It's really amazing how much exposure women's football is getting and the availability of detailed statistics to analyze the games.

I had a tough weekend and today's viz was a bit difficult to make, so even though I'm pretty happy with the outcome, I can't say the same thing about the code that creates it (you've been warned).

If you wish to gain more detail on the way these charts are created I recommend you take a look at a notebook I published a while back and my most recent Matplotlib tutorial.

Let's get to this week's visual...

Hope you enjoyed the format of today's issue!

I also wanted to highlight that I recently launched my very own EPL prediction model, and I'll be publishing forecasts before each game week – you can expect Matchday's 1 forecasts between Wednesday and Thursday!

If you're interested in replicating the above visual, check out my GitHub to get access to the code and data behind it.

If you enjoy these posts and charts, please help me by subscribing to my website and sharing my work.

Until next week! 👋
